| Curriculum | German and Chinese Students will study together through the entire program.
The curriculum spreads out over four terms: Term 1: Mid October through mid Februrary at Berlin University of Technology with a focus on basic understanding of Chinese and European urban cultures and discourses. Term 2: Mid April through mid July at Berlin University of Technology with emphasis on case study projects and studio work related to major issues of German cities with special reference to the city of Berlin Term 3: Mid September through end of January at Tongji University with emphasis on case study projects and studio work related to major issues of Chinese cities with special reference to the city of Shanghai Term 4: Mid February to mid July at Tongji University dedicated to thesis preparation All projects including the master thesis will be supervised jointly by one German and one Chinese teacher. Buffer time has been allocated before and after each exchange trip of students. This will allow for preparation and adaptation at the beginning of each exchange and will be used for additional excursions and study trips before returning to the home country. Language courses: The following language courses will be offered: - At Tongji University: basic course in Chinese, basic professional terms in Chinese. - At Berlin University of Technology: basic course in Chinese for German students, basic course in German for Chinese students Degrees: The program leads to master degrees from both universities. German students passing the program will be granted a „Master of Science in Urban Design“ from Berlin University of Technology and a „Master in Engineering with Specialization in Urban Planning“or „Master of Architecture“ (shůo shě degree) from Tongji University. Chinese students will receive the above mentioned degree from Berlin University of Technology and a regular master degree according to Tongji University regulations. |
