Prospect: Readings in Winter Term 2007/8
Urbanization trends and prospects (Prof. Herrle)
The Habitat Unit offers a series of lectures on basic aspects of
contemporary urbanization and related development issues. Topics
include:
- global and regional demographic and economic trends
- city typology and urban forms
- impacts of globalization: global cities and megacities
- informal housing, slums and squatter settlements
- informal economies, employment patterns and networks
- sustainablility aspects of urban development
- housing and urban planning strategies
- action area planning and strategic planning
- the role of international cooperation, key institutions and
their positions: UN Habitat, UNEP, The World Bank, GTZ, KfW, NGOs.
Lectures will be open to all students of Faculty VI. However,
participation is mandatory for students of the Urban
Management Master Program and the Urban
Design Master Program. Details will be announced in due time.
Together with the tutorial offered in parallel, these lecture series
provide the knowledge base recommended for seminars and projects
at the Habitat Unit.

of cultural identity in architecture - Report on a research project
funded by the VolkswagenStiftung" (in German)
The lecture was given as the contribution of the Architecture Department
of Faculty VII to the 125-year anniversary of the TU Berlin.

Urbanization trends
Lectures on demographic, social, economic and spatial aspects of
urbanization and their impact on the environment, the housing situation
and the overall structure of cities and urban areas. The effects
of globalization will be addressed and possible solutions for housing,
infrastructure and urban management problems will be discussed.
Donnerstags 14:00-16:00 Uhr, Raum A 060,
