Dr- Ing. Paola Alfaro d’Alençon
Dr- Ing. Paola Alfaro d’Alençon, is a lecturer at the Habitat Unit, chaired by Prof. Dr. P. Herrle at the Architecture Institute, Faculty VI of the TU Berlin. She works on international cooperation projects with partners from the global south on sustainable urban development and housing issues. P. Alfaro Alençon combines teaching with professional architecture and urban design practices from Europe and South America. She is also co-founder of the Urban Research and Design Laboratory of the TU Berlin, which is an academic-professional association. This initiative puts special emphasis on teaching and research in collaboration with stakeholders, government offices, the private sector and experts for improving methods in urban design education and enabling sustainable urban design practices. Additional research fields include the development of urban transport infrastructure spaces, which she investigated in her PhD-work in case studies from Berlin, Zürich and New York City. She has published several articles and publications on subjects relating to urban development and design, as well as sustainable architecture.

Habitat Unit
The Habitat Unit is a teaching and research unit at the School for Planning Building and Environment of the Berlin University of Technology. Our activities focus on development-related and socio-cultural issues of architecture and urbanization. To stimulate the exchange of experience the Habitat Unit is a member of international networks and collaborates with individuals and institutions in Latin America, Asia and Africa as well as with national and international development agencies.
