China | Tongji University Shanghai
Since 1999, a cooperation program promoting concepts for sustainable
urban development with the College of Architecture and Urban Planning
(CAUP) at Tongji University in Shanghai is being implemented. It
involves workshops, field-trips, and the exchange of teaching and
research staff. In 2006 an Urban
Design Dual Master Program was launched that is supported by
the DAAD and the China Scholarship Council.
China
| Academy of Social Sciences Guangzhou
The Academy of Social Sciences Guangzhou is our cooperation partner
in a research project on "the dynamics of peri-urbanization
in the Pearl River Delta: Emerging land use patterns, urban villages
and their linkages to global mechanisms". This project is part
of a six-year Priority Program funded by the DFG.

A cooperation with the the Hongkong University has been established
since the Megacities Conference 2000.
India
| School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi
Close links have been estabished to the Department of Housing. Activities
develop themes related to informal urban development in Indian metropolitan
cities. They also may also joint supervision of thesis work.
Singapore
| National University
The Faculty has signed a formal agreement with the National University
of Singapore, Department of Architecture to encourage an exchange
of students and teachers. The agreement includes an exemption from
tuition fees in both institutions. This regulation is particularly
interesting for German students who wish to study one or two semesters
in Singapore.
Turkey
| Technical University of Istanbul
The habitat unit collaborates with the Housing Research Unit on
themes such as the integratation of informal settlements and comparative
urban studies.
Uzbekistan
| TACI Tashkent Architectural Building Institute
Faculty VI of the Berlin Univrsity of Technology has signed a formal
agreement with the TACI to encourage the exchange of students and
teachers. A TACI faculty member joined the Habitat Unit in summer
2002 for two months. A field-study trip was carried out in August
2002 by a group of students from Germany. In May 2005 Stephanus
Schmitz from the Habitat Unit was invited by DAAD to contribute
to a conference on “History and Identity” in Tashkent.
Joint research aims at preservation strategies for the old city
of Tashkent. Until 2006 students also participated in the GO EAST-program
by DAAD for a study visit to Tashkent.
Uzbekistan
| SamSACEI Samarqand State Architectural and Civil Engineering Institute
A cooperation with the Samarqand State Architectural and Civil Engineering
Institute has been established in 2006. The Faculty has signed a
formal agreement to encourage an exchange of students and teachers.
The agreement includes an exemption from tuition fees in both institutions.
Prof. Shavkat D. Achilov, head of the UNESCO-department at SamSACEI
researches on urban conservation. Students already visited SamSACEI
as part of their research on preservation strategies.
Vietnam
| National Building Construction University and Architecture Institue
of Hanoi has started in 1996 with a visit of 15 German students
to Hanoi. Cooperation projects focus on urbanization strategies,
housing and urban conservation strategies in Hanoi and Hoi An.
